Places of interest

In the heart of Roermond stands the Prinsenhof, a stately 17th-century building. Inside lies the Regent’s Room, a historic space full of character, stories and timeless charm.

From Government House to Hospital

The Prinsenhof was built between 1681 and 1700, presumably designed by the Liège architect Bertholet. Originally, it served as the Government House for the Stadtholder of the Upper Quarter of Gelderland. In 1741, it was repurposed when Canon Goswinus de Bors established the General Hospital here, offering care to the poor, orphans and the elderly.

Historical elegance in every detail

The Regent’s Room is the beating heart of this monument. Oak staircases, marble fireplaces and paintings from the 16th to 18th centuries come together in an atmosphere that still breathes history. Once the boardroom of the hospital, it still radiates the dignity of the past.

Guided tours by appointment

Today, the Regent’s Room can be visited by groups on a guided tour, led by the city guides of Hart van Limburg. Visit by appointment and experience Roermond’s history up close in one of its most remarkable rooms.
