Artworks along the Meuse Cycle Route in Limburg
Cycling along the Meuse is more than just a scenic route. It is a voyage of discovery along water, nature, villages and art. Along the Limburg Meuse Cycle Route (EuroVelo 19), there are ten special works of art by artist Patrick Kusters. Each work is both a point of rest and an ode to the place where you are. Made of sustainable materials and designed as giant seats, they each tell their own story.
On your way? Then step off, take a seat on the artworks along the Meuse Cycle Route and look around. Below you can read what to expect at each location.
Gennep - Seats with a view
Whether you are alone or cycling with others: in Gennep there is always a place to sit. Each spot offers a beautiful view of the countryside.
Bloemenstraat Milsbeek, near junction 38
Horst aan de Maas - Giant saddle
In this true cycling community, only one work of art fits: a giant saddle. Ideal for a break between kilometres.
Broekhuizerweg in Broekhuizen, near junction 57
Venray - Folding chairs XL
You have almost crossed the provincial border, but these striking folding chairs invite you to stay a while longer. Extra large, nicely eye-catching and a perfect resting point by the water.
Trout farm Keijzersberg, Boltweg 15 Blitterswijck (between nodes 11 and 59)
Steyl - A spiritual break
Take a break in the monastic village of Steyl. The artwork here refers to its religious history and artisanal stained glass.
At the ferry in Steyl, near junction 5
Peel and Maas - Royal seat
There are seven castles in this municipality, so a royal seat is not to be missed. Take a break and feel regal for a while.
Ondersteweg Kessel, between junctions 54 and 53
Beesel - The dragon sword
Beesel is known for its dragon tradition. This artwork in the shape of a dragon sword recalls legends that still live on here.
Reuver, near the ferry, junction 3
Maasgouw - Meandering Meuse
Here, the Meuse flows freely and makes wide curves through the landscape. The seating area fits in nicely: wide, open and inviting.
Havenstraat Maasbracht, between junctions 10 and 40
Echt-Susteren - Narrowest chair
You're on the narrowest part of the Netherlands here. Fitting, then, that this seat is narrow - but big enough to take a break.
Ruitersdijk near Illikhoven, between nodes 13 and 19
Stein - Heart for the Meuse
In Stein, the heart of the Meuse Valley beats. Literally, because this work of art incorporates a heart. A resting place with a view you can just fall in love with.
Berg aan de Maas, by the ferry, near junction 27
Sittard-Geleen - Connected chairs
At this point, everything comes together. Two chairs, linked together, symbolise meeting. Sit down, look around and enjoy the view together.
Dike near Obbicht, between nodes 19 and 27
